Ondoy Floods Insights

Whew! Yes, that is exactly the word I had when I saw the devastations in the neigboring places in Cainta. Our place, Greenwoods Village is sandwiched by Pasig and Cainta. Both places have been badly hit by Ondoy rains. Anyhow, what happened to Cainta is a huge flash flood but the one in Pasig whose roads we take to get out of our village and to go to the city is still flooded up to now.We have to take the back road in Taytay to get out and get to work. Its a troublesome route and it is also tiring since we are commuters. However I realized later on that this is a much better predicament than what other Filipinos are in. They have lost so many things and others even lost loved ones.It is so hard trying to recover from such a tragedy.
I think there are lots of things we should learn from this tragedy AND it will be such a shame if we still dont realize and ACT on it. We are a country surrounded by waters and a tropical country at that and it is no wonder that typhoons will always hit us and Ondoy will not be the last. I think we should also have plans in the future of planting trees in cities. In lots where we can allot for trees. Trees are indeed one of man's truest bestfriends. We then realize that even the tallest and strongest of structures will not match the power of nature. We should also think of ways how to have a better and effective flood control system AND ONE THAT ACTUALLY WORKS. We should include flood control system in the future president's top agenda.
Another realization is that you should always be friendly with your neighbors no matter what. The last realization i have is that Filipinos are so compassionate, helpful and hopeful. We still manage to smile and we still manage to help with what little we have.I think we should not forget that as much as we are our brother's keeper , we are also mother nature's keeper and this should be our priority more than anything else right now. Mother nature is poking us way too hard for us to wake up to her call, let's not ignore.
